I got my start in the counseling field a little later in life. Although interested in psychology and how the mind works from an early age, I majored in business administration in my undergraduate studies. After many years in the business field and never finding my niche, I decided to go back to school for a master’s degree in counseling. Given my spiritual nature, I knew it would have to be a degree that integrated spirituality. Moravian Theological Seminary’s Pastoral Counseling degree fit the bill as it was a program that integrated clinical with spiritual. I have been in the counseling field for over ten years now and have found that my clients paths to healing are smoother when we integrate body, mind and spirit in the healing process. I have found, in my own life, that what affects one, affects the other for better or worse. For example, with anxiety, the racing mind, causes the body to tense up which, in turn causes us to separate ourselves from the world and our true selves. Meanwhile, our mind continues to tell us distortions and exaggerations of the truth about ourselves and the situation we find ourselves in. My work is to help my clients take a step back, learn some techniques to apply to body, mind and spirit to alleviate distress, and examine who they want to be in this world and in their own lives.
